Exploring Dvorak’s American Experience and More

On the eve of Antonin Dvorak’s birthday, join us for celebration of the 125th Anniversary of his arrival in America. The festive music offerings include: Dvorak’s Sonatina for Violin and Piano, Opus 100, written in New York and premiered by the composer’s children, plus selected Humoresques for piano combined with readings from Josef Kovarik’s Three Years with the Maestro: An American Remembers Antonin Dvorak. Enjoy rousing Slavonic Dances for piano four-hands and “A Visit with Antonin Dvorak III at Vysoka,” an illustrated talk by curator Majda Kallab Whitaker. Featuring violinist Laura Jean Goldberg, pianist Moshe Knoll, musicologist and pianist Michael Beckerman, actor Vit Horejs, and young composer Michael Pineda, who will perform his prize-winning piano work "Discovering a New World," from the New York Philharmonic New World Initiative Composition Competition.

This event is presented by the Dvorak American Heritage Association (DAHA) in collaboration with the New York Philharmonic New World Initiative, Czech Center New York, and the Consulate General of the Czech Republic, with support of BBLA. Concert organized by Laura Jean Goldberg of DAHA.
